How Do I get COVID-19 Antibody Testing?
A physician’s testing order is required before testing can be performed. Our physicians will provide you with a required testing order.  Once you receive this lab order from our physician, you should then make an appointment at a Quest or LabCorp location near you.  When you go to your appointment, you must be symptom free, you MUST wear a mask, and they will check your temperature to make sure you don’t have a fever. You will get your results in 2-4 business days.

Who should be tested?
All interested persons who have neither felt feverish in the last 3 days nor experienced any other COVID-19 symptoms such as loss of smell or taste, shortness of breath, dry cough, feeling weak or lethargic, lightheadedness or dizziness, vomiting or diarrhea, slurred speech, and/or seizures in the past 10 days are appropriate candidates for obtaining this test.

To protect laboratory collection site staff, please remember to wear either a face mask or some other form of face covering, like a scarf, when arriving at the laboratory collection site.

What is COVID-19 antibody testing?
It is a blood test that that identifies the presence of antibodies that indicate that a person had an immune response to COVID-19 (also known as coronavirus or SARS-CoV-2). A positive result to this antibody (IgG) test indicates that you may have had previous exposure to COVID-19 and your body has developed antibodies. In general, IgG antibodies are “protective” meaning a person who has them is considered to be immune. 

How is this test different than a nasal swab?
The nasal swab checks for an active infection by testing for the presence of the virus itself in your nose. This is an antibody test used to detect the presence of antibodies indicating a immune system response to a past COVID-19 infection, not to diagnose active infections. Please follow up with your primary care physician or a local hospital for a COVID-19 diagnostic test if you believe you may have an active infection or if you are currently feeling sick.  

Why get tested?
To know whether or not you personally have already been exposed to COVID-19 and have developed immunity. It is also extremely helpful for society to know who in the population has been infected and has developed immunity. This will potentially help guide policy decisions by knowing a more accurate number of cases that were mild or asymptomatic and what percent of society has developed immunity already. 

How soon could I develop antibodies after being exposed?
Although It may take up to 14 days after the onset of symptoms for antibodies to be developed within the body, 91% of people develop such antibodies within the first 8-13 days. Some people infected with COVID-19 will never exhibit symptoms but will have a detectable antibody response. While there is belief that the presence of antibodies may provide immunity to future infections, there is not yet enough data to state this conclusively.  

How accurate is the testing?
The accuracy of a lab test is measured in “sensitivity” and “specificity”. Sensitivity is the test’s ability to correctly identify those with antibodies (true positives) and specificity is the test’s ability to identify those without the antibodies (true negatives). According to independent studies from Abbott Labs, this test has a sensitivity of 100% and a specificity of 99.6% making it the most accurate COVID-19 antibody test currently available.

This test is authorized to be performed and marketed by the FDA. This testing service is based on a newly released test system from Abbott.  

Does this mean I am immune to COVID-19?
Perhaps. It means you were exposed, and your body has made antibodies, which are thought to be protective against future infection. That said, much is still not known and re-infection or loss of immunity is always a possibility. 

If I do not feel well, should I get tested?
No. If you have felt feverish in the last 3 days or experienced any other COVID-19 symptoms such as loss of smell or taste, shortness of breath, dry cough, feeling weak or lethargic, lightheadedness or dizziness, vomiting or diarrhea, slurred speech, and/or seizures in the past 10 days, please do not enter the laboratory collection site. You may still place your order now but wait until the aforementioned time frames have passed before arriving at the laboratory collection site. If you are experiencing a life-threatening emergency, please call 911. 

How long does my immunity last?
This is yet unknown for COVID-19. For other viruses it typically lasts months to years. 

How much does it cost?
Most medical insurances are covering the cost with a $0 copay. Make sure to provide LabCorp or Quest your insurance card and information when you go for your blood draw. If you do not have insurance, Quest may charge you up to $120, while there are $0 out-of-pocket or co-pay fees with LabCorp.

How do I get the results?
Withing 2-4 business days of your test, you will be able to get your results online directly at MyQuest or LabCorp Patient Portal. One of our doctors will also be able to send you your results by secure message if you prefer that method.

Am I able to pay using my health insurance?
Although TestMyAntibody.com does not currently accept health insurance as a form of payment, all patients will be provided an itemized receipt that can be submitted to insurance companies for reimbursement.

Can I order a test for my child?
Yes. As long as the child’s legal guardian provides consent, TestMyAntibody.com can perform this test on minors. All minors must be accompanied by an adult when visiting the laboratory collection site.

Do I still need to practice social distancing if I have antibodies?
Yes.  Social distancing continues to be very important to protect everyone.  You could still potentially transmit COVID-19 to others even if you are immune internally. 

Are my results shared with anyone?
